Trip to Breda.

Finally visited the exhibition, curated by my friend
O.M.
Lots of samplers to see from different countries,
some of them few meters long, also lots of beautifully
embroidered clothing!
My presentation is rather poor, but that is because
of the reflexion in the glass and the darkness.
The Pinokkio and girl's head were made in a ladies
embroidery workshop . pic 5-6-7
The volcano and cute weavings were made in a
children's workshop. pic 8-9-10
There will be a demonstration November 21 of
Turkish needle OYA, a sort of needlelace in button-
hole stitch.
Thanks for the nice words on my 'Age of Discovery'
post!!!!! :-)

Gold Coast.

Do you remember my 'Age of Discovery' project?
Well, this is part two, we' re in the west coast
of Afrika now, 1472.
The first Europeans to arrive at the coast were
Portuguese. You'll never guess what they found
there :-)

As you can see, our fortune-hunters were making
the best of it.

End.

The day the earth stood still.

You might have a déja vu feeling by seeing these
series, that's right, i already posted another 7,
but cancelled them at the end after i made some
changes. So this is the final cut.

The third dia comes from the movie
'The Day the Earth Stood Still', a 1951 science
fiction film that tells the story of two aliens who
come to earth with a mission of goodwill, the
robot on the pic is GORT :-)
The film opens with a magnificent shot when the
flying saucer enters the atmosphere and skims
over Washington, D.C. before landing in President's
Park.
If you like to see the opening shot here, you will
have to make your own sound by pursing your lips
slightly to let the air escape with soft high toned gusts.
Today we commemorate the end of World War I .

Come darkness, part two.

Come Darkness is online now.
You can click on every item to see the details.
It is funny, many of us worked in blue tones :-)
I made a blue linen snowflake and acorn and
two prints on gloss paper, i added also two small
pieces of blue paper that i used for the photos 3 & 4.
Thanks Maria! I enjoyed making it.

The opening reception is this evening, and all work

Washing instructions.

I finished two little plaids this week.
The front is croched and the back is in jute.
Because they will be for sale at Mieke Willems,
I had to wash them first to see how the two
materials react on eachother, the jute is very
stiff in wet state and i was afraid of damaging
the work. But you can see the result here, the
plait is perfectly washable.

WASHING INSTRUCTION
wash by hand
use fabric softener, it will make the jute a bit more
flexible.
spin dry and smooth out the jute-side.
dry flat, it will take some time because there's
three layers of fabric.
iron with steam on the jute-side, stretch out
the fabric when it is needed.

Feel free to contact me in case you have more
questions.
In general i wash everything by hand and dry it flat
after centrifuging.

Ps. something went wrong with my previous post,
i was replacing an image and i'm afraid i messed it up,
i will post the series again tomorrow.

Painting the house.

Sometimes, i think i 'm taking things to easily.
I was painting all round the frame, i just let it hang,
and after a while i was whitening the frame too,
i think it wasn't such a good idea.
Maybe i should darken it a bit.
What do you think?
I glued some colorsamples on the frame, maybe
a grey-blue, would be nice, can't decide yet.
Or maybe i just leave it white.

I'm having a nap too now, and later maybe a
movie.
Good night.
